Isc (Short-Circuit Current)

Isc (Short-Circuit Current)

Isc, or Short-Circuit Current, is the maximum current a solar panel can produce when its output terminals are shorted (zero load). It indicates the panel’s current-generating capability under peak sunlight.

Usually, you can get this parameter from the back side of a solar panel real product, or from its datasheet before purchasing.

  • Definition: The current (in amps) generated when voltage = 0.

  • Influenced by Irradiance: Increases with stronger sunlight.

  • Temperature Sensitivity: Slightly affected by cell temperature.

  • Used in System Sizing: Helps determine wire gauge and protection devices.

  • Datasheet Label: Marked as “Isc” or “Short-Circuit Current.”
