Imp (Current at Maximum Power)

Imp (Current at Maximum Power)

Imp is the current a solar panel produces when operating at its maximum power point. Together with Vmp, it defines the panel’s total power output.

Usually, you can get this parameter from the back side of a solar panel real product, or from its datasheet before purchasing.

  • Definition: The current (in amps) at peak power output.

  • Formula: Vmp × Imp = Maximum Power (Pmax).

  • Critical for Sizing: Helps determine wire and fuse sizes.

  • System Design: Imp increases when panels are wired in parallel.

  • Affected by Light: Increases with stronger solar irradiance.
